Filter press is a machine, which performs filtration & separation during its operation. A filter press consists of a series of chambers containing square or circle filter plates supported in a frame. Once the filter chambers are sealed with high pressure using screw rods or hydraulic cylinders, slurry will be fed throughout the filter plate chambers which are covered with filter cloths.

As the slurry tries to escape through the filter cloths, which acts as a filtration medium, tends to build cake. As the solid filter cake builds up, the cake adds to the removal of fine particles. The solution coming through the filter called the filtrate, will be very pure. If not required, the filtrate can be drained away for safe disposal. At the end of the operation, the solid filter cake can be removed. The whole process is often electronically controlled to make it automatic or semi-automatic.
